CANNES, (February 12, 1996) -- The top honor for a software CD-ROM title went to "ScruTiny in the Great Round" at the annual International Publishing and New Media Market Conference (Milia).
The Milia d'Or Grand Prix Award was presented to Calliope Media and multimedia designer Jim Gasperini by Jean-Michel Jarre in the Grand Auditorium at the Palais des Festivals on Sunday, February 11.
The prestigious Milia d'Or Awards, given for the first time at last year's show, recognize outstanding achievement in multimedia publishing for interactive works published in 1995. The first Grand Prix was awarded to Broderbund's best-selling "Myst." Over 400 CD-ROM titles from 22 countries were considered for the Award this year. In addition to the Grand Prix, seven CD-ROM titles won Milia d'Or Awards in their respective categories.
Considered "the first full-length work in one of the key art forms of the 21st century," ScruTiny in the Great Round is based on a limited edition, hand-made book of collage art by artist Tennessee Rice Dixon.
Brought to life in collaboration with designer Gasperini and composer Charlie Morrow, ScruTiny focuses on the mystery of the connection between spirit and body, allowing users to navigate through a banquet of interwoven moving images, metaphoric icons, audible symbols and poetry.
"We congratulate Tennessee Rice Dixon, Jim Gasperini and Charlie Morrow on their great accomplishment and thank our distributors Maxis and Macmillan Interactive Publishers for their continued support of ScruTiny, " said Calliope CEO and co-founder Jay Heifetz.
"It was at Milia last year that Jay and I first saw ScruTiny, and we knew at once that we wanted to publish it," said Calliope President and co-founder Robert Winter.
Released in the U.S. in November 1995, ScruTiny in the Great Round can be ordered directly in North America by calling (800) 617-2541 toll-free. ScruTiny has been released in the UK in April 1996 by Macmillian, and throughout Europe and Asia this spring by Maxis.
Headquarted in Santa Monica, Calif., Calliope Media is an independently held company co-founded by businessman Jay Heifetz and multimedia author/performer Robert Winter. The company publishes and distributes interactive multimedia software titles for the consumer market. Calliope's titles feature originally authored programs in the arts, entertainment and humanities that focus on combining intellectually stimulating content with entertaining interactive design.
